In this challenge I had a lot of fun with my group we created a robot that would do its job to pick up these makeshift mines as points against another group. Over the days we won and lost matches but made up for it by getting a spot into the semifinals. When we were in the semifinals it was very interesting to see because for one of our matches our group had to switch with the other group for autonomous code and we would get their autonomous points and then switch back. Another group was told to try wearing welding masks in the dark while still trying to pick up mines for points. I really enjoyed this project it was very different and a lot of fun and as of right now we are down to the last groups and we are in the finals.

Throughout this year we were tasked with doing challenges and all of these challenges prepared us for the future passion project. Are passion project design is a modular drone that can switch between air and ground using a rail system. When we had the idea we started coming up with rough drafts and sketches until it was time to build. When it came time to build we decided we were going to 3D print the frame and buy the electrical offline. Our group did our own research and used our knowledge and skills to buy the parts we needed. Some of the material we used for this project were... drivers, drone motors, and a Raspberry PI used to help program it. Although we didn't get to finishing it we made a cardboard prototype and had all the material ready to go and put into the robot but we did not get to 3D printing.
About two weeks ago we did our mechatronics speeches for our passion projects. This was my first formal public speaking event. Before we were even allowed to start speaking on the stage we made our speech first had several people edit it and then make some more fine adjustments of our own. I practiced my speech for the next week to prepare and felt more and more comfortable speaking in front of people at an event. When the time came to do our speeches I was the 3rd person up. If you would like to see my passion project speech the video is on the Home page.
What is a SMART goal? A SMART goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely. My academy goal in Mechatronics is to find out what I'm going to do for my passion project throughout the year. Once I have my own passion project idea I am going to make my blueprint have a list of materials of what I need. I can also measure my use of funds on materials for my passion project to make sure I am not going over my budget so I can build my passion project. I think I can accomplish this goal of getting my passion project idea with the help of my teachers and family. This goal is worthwhile because this could benefit me greatly in the future.
My personal goal is get a job throughout the year. I can measure this by the places I applied an not applied at. I can achieve this goal by hard work and determination and I will try to achieve this goal before the end of this year Yesterday on September 18th, 2017 we had a special speaker by the name of Paul Davis come in and talk to the whole school about internet safety. Throughout this presentation he talked about digital footprints and how they should always be presented in a positive way. If someones footprint was presented in a negative way it can affect everything they do for life for example; it can affect job interviews and connection with friends. In this presentation I learned that when anything is deleted online it goes to a server and can be found at any given time and can be retrieved. After a while of listening to Paul Davis talk about the importance of internet safety a topic came up that surprised me greatly; apple is tracking you wether or not you turn off your location. This made me think very critically about how important it is to know what I am doing online to stay safe and have a healthy digital footprint.
on Sept 13th, 2017 I went went on a Mechatronics academy retreat and I went to the rvschools education centre in Airdrie, AB. When I got to the education centre everyone was sat down and we were introduced to all the speakers in the building afterwards, we had a special presentation from a speaker by the name of Veronica Funk. Throughout the presentation she talked about our digital footprints and our websites and how everyone needs to present ourselves in an appropriate way on the internet. When the special presentation was over went back to WH Croxford school for lunch.
Once everyone had finished lunch we headed back to the education centre. When we returned back from the school we took headshot pictures for our websites as seen on my homepage. As soon as everyone was finished taking their headshot pictures we were sent into a different room to write about ourselves for our website. After a long productive day was done we headed back to the school and went home. |
