Grade 11 Projects
Robotic Arm Challenge #2: For this challenge our group designed a mechanical robot arm that was operated manually by one of our group members using some string, popsicle sticks, hockey tape, hot glue, and cardboard. We shaped the arm using some popsicle sticks in the form of a pentagon and then hot glued them together this is what we ran the string through to try and lift the arm and used 3 pieces of cardboard for the claw. One of the biggest challenges we've had building this arm was the claw opening and closing we had to go through several variations but it did work in the end. For the second part of this assignment we are now tasked with taking our mechanical robot arm and turning it into a full automated robotic arm.
Tallest Tower Challenge #1: In this small assignment us grade 11's were grouped up with the grade 10's that are brand new to the academy this year and we were tasked with you guessed it trying to make the tallest tower sadly I do not have any pictures to show this but before we started the building process we made some rough sketches and went off that and improved on it to try and make it the tallest tower. Throughout that period we made several variations of our design and then took other ideas and got feedback from the teacher's and communicated well as a group. In the end we didn't get the tallest tower but we did learn more about structural integrity.
Rapid fire elastic gun #3: Our group was tasked with making you guess it a rapid firing elastic gun that would knock down as many cups as it can. When working in this assignment we made our design very simple and to the point which if I had more time I would try to change but the elastic gun knocked down every single cup in the end of the competition and were very happy with how efficient our gun turned out.
Nothing but net #4: In this challenge our group was told to make a robot that would have 30 seconds of autonomous and 2 minutes of manually operated driving of our robot and try to get as many of these balls in nets and whoever has the most points win the round. When I was assigned my group we got straight into working and got our CAD modeling done and technical drawings done as well. When we started building we used cardboard with the VEX and made it very sturdy but when it came down to the functionality of the project we ran into some problems such as the balls not feeding through the entrance or the balls not going up the track. Overall I would say we did OK on this project but not as greatly as we hoped it did work sometimes during testing and we did try to improve it throughout this whole project but for next project when it comes down to using recycled material I would most likely use something different.
